The Journey

Foothills of Kathgodam

The first day of the journey commences at the foothills of Kathgodam. From Kothgodam a long drive of 213km to Lohajung base camp takes place. The drive contains views of astonishing rivers and mountain roads from beneath, on clear days people can see the Garhwal Himalayas in the distance. It takes nine hours from Kathagodam to reach the base camp at Lohajung. The main trek of the Brahmatal starts from the Loajung base camp.

Lohajung Base Camp

The Lohajung contains the majestic view of The Nanda Ghunti peak. Lohajung also unfolds a folklore revolving around its name. It is said that Goddess Parvati, The Adi-Shakti had a war ‘Jung’ with an Asur named ‘Lohasur’. Thereby getting its name Lohajung. A small market at Lohajung provides trek gear and essentials that might be valuable for the trek.

The Mythical Lakes

The second day of the trek is a 7-8 km walk through the Kali Valley. It takes 5 hours to complete the well-defined trails from Lohajung to Bekaltal. At Bekaltal you can enjoy a clear water lake.

From Bekaltal a 5-6 hours trek takes us to The Brahmatal Lake. The word Brahmatal is made up of two words ‘Brahma- The creator’ and ‘Tal- meaning a lake’. The whole word means, the lake of the Bramha. It is said that Lord Brahma, created the Brahmatal Lake while writing The Vedas. He created it to wet his finger to turn a leaf in his book, while he was writing The Vedas. In winter, the lake is completely camouflaged by the snow, the lake completely merges with its surroundings.

The next day the trek passes through a path of a magnificent mountain ridge, with sloping valleys across Chota Jhandidar and Bada Jhandidar. The trek is headed to the Brahmatal summit and takes about two hours to reach the top.

The Last Destination

After reaching the top we trek to Daldum. Daldum is the last destination of the Brahmatal trek. After Daldum the trek returns back to Lohajung and from Lohajung a drive to Kathgodam completes the six-day trip.
